An assessment is generally requested to identify a child’s or adolescent’s learning strengths and weaknesses, and to ascertain whether an identifiable difficulty exists. We are passionate about assisting children and young people achieve personal success by helping identify their unique skills, strengths and talents.

THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS
A comprehensive clinical and psychoeducational assessment uncovers each child’s unique intellectual, learning & educational, behavioural and social-emotional profile. Our assessment process include the following steps:
1. Parent Initial Consultation – 50 minutes
We like to meet with both parents / primary caregiver(s) to gain an understanding of concerns and factors impacting your child’s development.
2. Collection of School / Educational Information
We may discuss with you the benefits of contacting your child’s teacher(s) or other professionals involved in your child’s care. This may involve asking them to complete questionnaires or a phone consult to gain an in-depth understanding of your child’s unique strengths and talents.
3. Cognitive (IQ) Assessment – 90-120 minutes
We use the WISC-V to evaluate your child’s individual cognitive abilities. For younger children (ages 2 years 6 months to 7 years 7 months) we use the WPPSI-IV.
4. *Functional Assessment – 90-120 minutes
We use tests to identify your child’s unique learning strengths and weaknesses including; pre-reading and reading readiness abilities, phonological processing, decoding (reading), encoding (spelling), reading comprehension, written language, mathematics, and social-emotional functioning.
We will discuss with you which assessments we will use and how we will tailor your child’s assessment to suit their unique needs.
5. *Social, Emotional, Personality & Behavioural Assessment
We use a range of tools to measure social skills, emotional health, personality and behavioural functioning.
6. Report Preparation – 150 minutes
We provide parents with a comprehensive, detailed report that explains the meaning of all assessment results and findings.
Please allow two weeks after the assessment date to compile a comprehensive individualised report.
7. Parent Feedback Consultation – 50 minutes
We invite both parents / primary caregiver(s) to clarify the assessment findings and discuss strategies for intervention. We may make recommendations on well researched programs to assist your child.
Depending on a child’s maturity and age we may invite the child client to attend the feedback session along with their parents to also provide feedback to them about their assessment results.
